Charis wanted to update her logo and branding to better emphasise the quality and concept behind her business as an artist blacksmith. The logo needed to represent her product and also be useful as a small 1cm makers mark that could be punched into finished pieces as her 'signature'. Areas of focus were to create a visual identity that steered away from the cliches of blacksmith branding and had a contemporary feel.
The logo design for Sculpted Steel is a monogram of the business, combined into a shape that represents the concept of the flat, steel panels that Charis will be producing in the future. The choice of typeface plays on the notion of natural, feminine form, tradition and the harsh stencil lettering found in cut steel plates and industrial settings. A colour palette of cool blue, representing steel, and a warm grey, representing the softness of form in Charis' work was chosen. The use of metallic foiling in printed pieces is a reference to the material and adds a feeling of quality to the brand.
